

GENERAL RULES

A professional photographer will be present & photographs may be ordered post event.

Props will be allowed if carried on & off the stage by the contestant (no assistance allowed – except 13 & under who may have one person assisting)

Dancer has 10 seconds to prepare on stage & ten seconds to exit the stage with all props
-
No props are allowed which might litter the floor eg. Liquids, sprays, gels, glitter, confetti etc.
-
Our Xpert Adjudicators decision is final and no discussion, verbal or other, will be entertained at the event
-
Any dancer who fails to complete their entire performance/item for any reason eg Medical, nerves etc. will not be permitted to re-dance & will forfeit their item
-
Special Requests for performance dates or times cannot be considered – dancers must be available to dance on all the days of the event.

Entries are done through our entry programme and are to be completed and submitted by Studio Head/Administration of registered studios only.

Contestants and teachers understand that by entering a Dance X event they give their permission and consent to the directors of the competition to use their photographic images and/or videos, or any other electronic media for advertising, or any other commercial use, of Dance X events.

Our Xperienced Teachers - Please Note:
Teachers will receive FREE entry bands according to the number of pupils entered into Dance X
1 – 15 Dancers = 1 16 – 30 Dancers = 2 31 – 45 Dancers = 3 46 – 60 Dancers = 4 etc.
No entries will be accepted without full payment.
Entry fees are not refundable should a participant need to withdraw or cancel for any reason.
CLOSING DATE
Entries close 4 weeks before day 1 of each Dance X festival.
Late entries will incur a cost of R200 per item

Closing dates for Nationals will be scattered per Dance X Qualifying event due to programming logistics and making of Nationals Qualifying Branded Shirt & Sock Packs

LEVELS
Levels are entered at the Teacher’s discretion
Our Xpert Adjudicators have the discretion to move a dancer up or down to the correct level if deemed necessary based on the dancer’s performance on the day. Your results will automatically be moved to the correct section
Novice/First Timer - has never danced in a festival before – can only be danced once
Level 1 – A dancer who has participated in minimal festivals and competitions and has danced for 1-2 years
Level 2 – A dancer who has participated in several festivals and competitions and has danced for 3-4 years
Level 3 – A championship competitive dancer who has competed in multiple festivals and championship competitions
Person with Disabilities – Mobility, Intellectual, Visual or Hearing Impaired

Xcel Awards (Genre)
Solo dancers achieving the highest marks in each genre from our panel of Xperts will receive a Dance Xcell Award.
PLEASE NOTE: A genre has to have at least 2 entries or more to constitute a section eligible for this award. Levels will be combined for these awards if only one entry in the highest given level.
TINY TOT SOLO
The highest Solo Tiny Tot results in each genre according to our panel of Xperts will receive a Dance Xcell Award
JUVENILE SOLO
The highest Solo Juvenile results in each genre according to our panel of Xperts will receive a Dance Xcell Award
JUNIOR SOLO
The highest Level 2 or 3 Junior results in each genre according to our panel of Xperts will receive a Dance Xcell Award.
Junior Level 1 will be eligible if there are no contenders in Levels 2 or 3, Junior Novice will be eligible if there are no contenders in Levels 1, 2 or 3.
SENIOR SOLO
The highest Level 3 Senior results in each genre according to our panel of Xperts will receive a Dance Xcell Award.
(Dancers will be eligible to win this award if in Level 3. Senior Level 2 will be eligible for the award if there are no contenders in Level 3. Senior Level 1 will be eligible if there are no contenders in Levels 2 or 3. Senior Novice will be eligible if there are no contenders in Levels 1 or 2 or 3)

Choreography Award (Amateurs Only)
For routines choreographed 100% by the amateur dancer/dancers.
The amateur choreography award goes to the overall best results from our panel of Xperts in own choreography over all genres, age groups and categories. Winner will receive one trophy plus an online certificate.
QUALIFYING FOR DANCE X NATIONALS
Dancers/Routines that achieve 80% and above or a Golden X Ticket at any regional event in any genre, level, category and age group will qualify to dance the Dance X SA's in Kwa-Zulu Natal in September.
Dancers who qualify will be able to purchase an exclusive SA Qualifier shirt and socks.
General Rules for Qualifiers

Note that this event will take place on Saturday 26 September, but if needed, might also be held over 2 days (if Sunday 27 September is needed). We will only be able to let you know once entries have closed on 27 August

All dancers who received 80% and over in any style, category, age group & level at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026

Qualifying items must compete with the same Item, Level & Music that they qualified with
-
Dancers will compete against Dance X7-X11 Regional Gold medallists to determine the first, second & third place nationally
-
If a dancer/s have qualified twice or more for the same category and style/genre – the dancer/s will perform all the qualifying routines, but the highest score only will count towards the placings
-
PLUS ONE – every Item that qualified will be allowed to enter onto a waiting list another item of the same category, level, age group and with the same participants as an added bonus. Genre may change.
If doing the same genre, the routine which gets the highest score will be the routine counting for placing.
This will be dependent on time available and will work on a first come first served basis.
Plus One Entries need to be paid for in full by the relevant closing date and will only then be added to a waiting list in order of payments received. These will be programmed accordingly to time slots available.
Should a time slot not be available for your Plus One, the payment will be refunded -
Where too few entries are received for a level, then levels may be combined at the organisers discretion (eg. If the is 1 entry for Juvenile First Timer Lyrical, they might end up being combined with Juvenile Level 1 or 2 Lyrical)

eg. A Novice/1st Timer Juvenile Hip Hop might receive a 3rd place if they’re not deemed good
enough to receive a first place for their age group & level
DUO/TRIO QUALIFIERS

All duos/trios who received 80% and over at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026

The duo/trio must have at least 2 of the same dancers in the duo/trio – one dancer may be replaced in a trio if necessary but the average age must remain the same as you qualified with.

A trio can be entered as a duo if one dancer is absent

The duo/trio must compete with the same item & music that they qualified with
SMALL GROUP QUALIFIERS

All small groups who received 80% and over at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026
-
The small group must still fit into the small group category with 4-7 dancers
-
A maximum of one dancer may be replaced if necessary but the average age must still remain the same as you qualified with

Should a dancer be absent, the small group may still compete if it still fits into the Small Group category

The small group must compete with the same item & music that they qualified with
DANCE TEAM/CREW QUALIFIERS

All teams who received 80% and over at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026

The team must still fit into the team category with 8-21 dancers

A maximum of two dancers may be replaced if necessary but the average age must remain the same as you qualified with

The team must compete with the same item & music that they qualified with
DANCE PRODUCTION LINE/MEGA CREW QUALIFIERS

All production/mega crews who received 80% and over at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026

The production/mega crews must still fit into the production/mega crew category with 22 & more dancers

A maximum of four dancers may be replaced if necessary but the average age must remain the same as you qualified with

OWN CHOROEOGRAPHY (Amateurs Only) QUALIFIERS

All Own Choreography Items who received 80% and over at Dance X7-X11 events in 2026 will be eligible to compete in Dance X12 Nationals 2026
